How to prepare for IPCC examination
IPCC examination is the second stage of the CA and for students it is very difficult stage of CA. 90% students lost their morale at this stage. They feel very high pressure in the last month before examination. What to study and when to study in last few days they don’t know and due to which they lost their confidence.
Integrated Professional Competence course (IPCC) examination is held twice in a year in May and December. Student should appear in this examination after 9 months of clearing CPT exam. IPCC examination is divided in 2 groups. There are 4 subjects in 1st group and 3 subjects in 2nd group. Each subject caries 100 marks. Students have to secure 40 marks to pass in individual subject with 200 marks in 1st group and 150 marks in 2nd group.
(I) In 1st group there are 4 subjects.
- Accountancy - 1
- Law Ethics Communication
- Finance management and costing
- Taxation
In this group accountancy and taxation are scoring subjects. Students try to achieve highest marks in these 2 subjects. Law is a theoretical subject. Students feel these subjects quite boring. Students use to get fewer marks in these subjects as they have various case laws and sections of company law. Finance management and costing is mixture of theory and practical which is quite lengthy. Students try to avoid some chapters but it is suggested to give more time to this subject. To prepare for this exam proper time distribution is the key factor to succeed. We have also provided few books related to Group 1 you can refer these books to score more in the examination.
(II) In 2nd group there are mainly 3 subjects.
- Advance accountancy
- Auditing
- Strategic management and information technology
In this group advance accounting is the scoring subject. Auditing and SM & IT are the theoretical subjects hence students need to give more efforts in this group because there is only 1 subject of practical. Students try to prepare more in these types of subjects. Another advantage is if they get exemption in individual subject than it would be an added advantage. If any student gets more than 60 marks in any subject then he will get the exemptions and then he need not to give exam of that subject next time. Students should read the study material and practice material issued by the ICAI for clearing IPCC examination successfully.
Students should also revise test papers of last 4-5 attempts. To move to the next level students have to clear both groups of IPCC Group 1 and Group 2. Generally students prepare for Group 1 in the first attempt because this is the major hurdle to crack IPCC, Once this is passed its easy to prepare for the Group 2 and side by side you can also prepare for the Group 2, Sometimes students in the hue of clearing both the examination in a single attempt looses the momentum and hence are unable to clear any of the examination. . So prepare well and good luck for the next exam.
